Laundry Services in Metro Manila: A Practical Guide for Foreign Residents

Laundry in Metro Manila can be handled in several ways: leave a bag at a neighborhood laundry shop, use a self-service laundromat, or arrange laundry pickup and delivery from a home, condominium or office. The most common full-service description is Wash, Dry & Fold. It usually means the provider weighs or accepts a load of everyday clothes, machine-washes and dries them, then returns them folded. It does not automatically include ironing, dry cleaning, stain removal or special care for delicate fabrics.

The right option depends on the fabric, load size, turnaround time and how much control you want over the washing process. Before choosing on price alone, confirm exactly what will happen to your clothes and how the provider deals with lost, damaged or colour-bleeding items.

Main service formats

1. Full-service Wash, Dry & Fold

You drop off the laundry or have it collected. The shop handles washing, drying and folding. This is commonly charged by weight, often with a minimum number of kilograms or a minimum order value. Ask whether detergent and fabric conditioner are included, whether whites and colours are separated, and whether your load is washed separately from other customers' items.

2. Pickup and delivery laundry

The washing process may be the same as a shop's regular full service, but collection and return are arranged by address and time window. Some providers include delivery above a minimum spend; others charge by distance, zone or order. Building access, parking, condominium reception rules and missed pickup attempts may affect the final charge or schedule.

3. Self-service laundry or laundromat

The customer operates the washer and dryer, normally paying by load and drying time. Staff-assisted service may also be available at the same location. Self-service should not be assumed merely because a business calls itself a laundromat: confirm whether customers can actually use the machines themselves.

4. Dry cleaning and specialist care

Dry cleaning is a separate service, not another name for ordinary laundry. Suits, structured jackets, gowns, silk, wool, leather, shoes and heavily embellished garments may need item-by-item assessment and pricing. A care label should guide the process, but the provider should still be told about stains, repairs, fragile trims and previous colour problems.

5. Commercial laundry

Hotels, short-term rentals, salons, clinics and restaurants may need recurring linen or uniform service. Pricing can depend on volume, collection frequency, sorting, pressing, packaging and service-level requirements. A household rate should not be assumed to apply to commercial loads.

What is usually included -- and what may cost extra

A basic Wash, Dry & Fold order commonly covers machine washing, machine drying and folding of ordinary washable clothes. Detergent may be included, but the brand, fragrance and use of bleach or fabric conditioner vary. Packaging may mean a simple plastic bag or sealed bundle; it does not necessarily include individual garment wrapping.

Common exclusions or add-ons include:

• ironing or pressing;
• dry cleaning, hand washing and delicate cycles;
• pre-treatment or guaranteed removal of stains;
• blankets, duvets, comforters, curtains, rugs and pet bedding;
• shoes, bags, leather and formal wear;
• hypoallergenic, fragrance-free or customer-supplied detergent;
• separate-load washing;
• rush or same-day service;
• pickup and delivery outside a covered zone;
• damage repair, colour restoration or mould treatment.

Never place valuables, documents, cash or removable accessories in a laundry bag. Empty pockets and count unusual or high-value pieces before handover.

How pricing usually works

Everyday Wash, Dry & Fold is often priced per kilogram, subject to a minimum load or minimum bill. A current public example from Fort Laundry Hub lists ordinary clothes at ₱50/kg, while towels, linens and bedding use higher per-kilogram or per-piece prices. This is one provider's posted price, not a Metro Manila average. Mr Jeff's public list illustrates the item-based model: a single blanket is listed at ₱400, a single comforter at ₱500, and curtains at ₱250/kg. Prices, branches and conditions can change.

Your final bill may also depend on:

• actual weight after sorting;
• minimum order rules;
• type and size of household items;
• pressing or dry-cleaning requirements;
• stains, delicate materials or special detergent;
• same-day or express turnaround;
• pickup and delivery zone;
• taxes, service fees or failed collection attempts.

Ask for a written estimate or order ticket showing the weight, piece count, requested process, promised turnaround and additional fees. If the provider discovers a care issue after inspection, ask it to obtain approval before changing the price or method.

A short trust and safety check

Keep the receipt or digital order record, photograph valuable or delicate pieces, and disclose stains or damage before processing. Read the garment care labels and do not send "dry clean only" items in a regular Wash, Dry & Fold bag. For pickup, confirm the business name, contact number, collection window and the identity of the rider or staff member.
