Aircon Cleaning, Repair and Installation in Manila: What to Know Before You Book
Air conditioning in Metro Manila works hard. Heat, humidity, dust and long daily operating hours can leave a unit with weak airflow, dripping water, unpleasant smells or unexpectedly high electricity use. When that happens, the right service may be routine cleaning, a deeper pull-down cleaning, diagnosis and repair, or a new installation. These are not interchangeable jobs, so the cheapest advertised price rarely tells the whole story.
This guide explains how Manila's aircon service market works, what may or may not be included, how providers build their quotes, and which questions can help you compare offers fairly.
Who provides aircon services in Manila?
Independent technicians and freelancers commonly take home-service bookings through referrals, social media and local groups. They can be practical for routine cleaning and straightforward repairs, and their schedules may be flexible. Their tools, invoices, workmanship warranty and access to genuine parts can vary, however. Ask who will actually visit, whether the technician has experience with your brand and unit type, and what happens if the same problem returns.
Small aircon businesses usually dispatch a team and may offer cleaning, troubleshooting, repair, relocation and installation across several brands. A business may be better equipped for split systems, outdoor units, ladders and multi-unit jobs. Still, "company" does not automatically mean "authorized by the manufacturer." Confirm the legal business name, contact details, written scope, receipt and service warranty.
Manufacturer-authorized dealers or service centers are especially relevant when a unit remains under warranty, needs brand-specific diagnostics, or requires a major component. Authorization is brand-specific. Daikin Philippines, for example, directs customers to its authorized dealers and service centers, and states that warranty activation depends on installation by an authorized dealer. An authorized service route may cost more or have less flexible scheduling, but it can protect warranty eligibility and improve access to approved parts and technical procedures.
Cleaning: surface service, standard cleaning or pull-down cleaning?
A low-cost "cleaning" can mean only washing the removable filter and wiping visible surfaces. That is useful light maintenance, but it is not the same as cleaning the evaporator coil, blower, drain pan and drain line.
A more complete standard cleaning may include filter washing, coil cleaning, drain-pan and drain-line cleaning, blower cleaning, a basic operational check and cleanup of the work area. For a split-type unit, ask whether the quoted service covers only the indoor unit or also the outdoor condenser. Carrier's consumer guidance describes professional cleaning as potentially including debris removal, coil cleaning, thermostat calibration and control checks, but the exact booked package still controls.
Pull-down or deep cleaning involves substantially more disassembly and labor. It may be recommended for heavy dirt, persistent odor, mold-like buildup or a blower that cannot be cleaned properly in place. Do not assume "chemical cleaning," antibacterial treatment or complete dismantling is included unless it appears in writing. Carrier Cares, for example, separately lists an additional fee for complete pull-down cleaning of a split unit.
Cleaning normally does not automatically include replacement parts, electrical repair, leak repair, refrigerant charging, relocation, additional piping, wall work or repainting. Happy Helpers explicitly says its aircon cleaning service does not check the Freon level -- useful evidence that refrigerant work should never be assumed from the word "cleaning."
Repair and refrigerant: diagnosis comes first
"Not cooling" does not necessarily mean "needs Freon." Dirty coils, blocked airflow, a faulty fan, a sensor, capacitor, control board, compressor issue or refrigerant leak can produce similar symptoms. Ask for diagnosis before approving a recharge.
Refrigerant is a sealed-system working fluid; it is not meant to disappear routinely. If pressure is low, ask whether the technician checked for a leak, what refrigerant the nameplate specifies -- such as R32, R410A or another type -- and whether the quote covers a top-up or a full recovery and recharge. Mixing refrigerants or charging by guesswork can damage equipment and create safety problems. Diagnostic fees, leak testing, brazing, replacement valves, refrigerant and parts are commonly quoted separately. Ask the technician to explain the findings and obtain approval before adding work.
Installation: labor-only prices can be misleading
Window-type installation may be simple when a suitable opening, support and electrical supply already exist. Split-type installation is more complex because it connects indoor and outdoor units with copper piping, insulation, drain hose, control cable and power wiring.
Before comparing prices, ask whether the quote includes a standard pipe length, copper tubing, insulation, drain hose, electrical cable, outdoor bracket, drilling, sealing, vacuuming, pressure or leak testing, commissioning and removal of packaging. Extra pipe by the foot or meter, a dedicated breaker, wall coring, scaffolding, rope access, condominium permits, parking and old-unit removal may be additional. Installation capacity should also match the room and electrical system; horsepower alone is not a complete site assessment.
How prices are usually structured
Treat these as public examples, not a fixed market average:
- Carrier Cares lists NCR cleaning starting at about ₱900 for a non-inverter window unit of 1.5 HP or less, ₱1,150 for an inverter window unit, and ₱1,600 for a split unit up to 2.5 HP. It separately lists higher-capacity, long-ladder and complete pull-down charges.
- Happy Helpers publicly lists ₱1,080 per unit for aircon cleaning (window or split alike), subject to a ₱2,970 minimum per booking -- in practice, about three units.
- One Manila installer publicly advertises installation starting around ₱3,500 for window type and ₱7,500 for split type, stated as including standard materials, while noting that pipe length, unit size, floor level, distance between units and access affect the final amount.
Repair pricing commonly separates a call-out or diagnostic fee, labor, parts and refrigerant. Installation pricing commonly separates base labor, included pipe length, excess materials and difficult access. Brand, horsepower, inverter technology, unit type, building rules, parking, height and urgency can all change the quote. Request an itemized written estimate before work starts.
Questions to ask before booking
- Is this cleaning, diagnosis, repair, installation or a combination?
- Do you service my exact brand, model, horsepower and inverter/non-inverter type?
- Who will attend, and are you manufacturer-authorized for this brand?
- Will using your service affect the manufacturer's warranty?
- For cleaning, which parts will be cleaned: filter, coil, blower, drain pan and drain line?
- For split type, are both indoor and outdoor units included?
- Is this in-place cleaning or complete pull-down cleaning?
- Are chemicals used, and are they included in the price?
- Is diagnosis included? Will you ask before doing extra work?
- Is refrigerant pressure checking included? Is refrigerant charging separate?
- If refrigerant is low, will you test for leaks and identify the correct refrigerant?
- For installation, what pipe length and materials are included?
- Are drilling, brackets, electrical work, ladder/scaffolding, parking or condo permits extra?
- What is the total expected price, and what could change it?
- Will I receive a receipt, service report and written workmanship or parts warranty?
- How will the work area be protected, cleaned and tested before handover?
A short note on trust and verification
Check more than a profile photo or a "technician" label. Compare the provider's name and contact details, recent work evidence, brand and unit-type experience, written quotation, receipt and warranty terms. For warranty work, confirm authorization through the manufacturer's official dealer or service-center locator. In a condominium, verify building access and work-permit rules before the appointment. Keep valuables and sensitive documents secured, and do not approve unpriced parts or refrigerant work verbally if the scope is unclear.
About WooriCares
WooriCares is a pre-launch platform being developed to help residents in Metro Manila find and compare local home-service providers, including aircon cleaning and repair providers. Provider information is intended to be reviewed before public listing, while service scope, price, availability and final arrangements remain matters for the customer and provider to confirm directly. WooriCares does not claim a published number of aircon providers, completed bookings or customer reviews at this pre-launch stage.
